The Bridge has been sensitively designed to protect and enhance the natural environment. Alongside the more formal landscaped areas, the development includes retained wildlife habitat, sports facilities and three freshwater lakes, all of which are linked by a network of footpaths and cycle ways. The development is an ideal location for the sporting events that are run on site throughout the Spring and Summer months; these include triathlons, aquathlons, the Big South East Swim and The Bridge 10K. Reflecting the ethos of The Bridge, artist William Jordan is creating a sculpture trail across the site. Made principally from re-cycled and reclaimed materials, the sculpture trail offers an interesting new perspective on ideas of innovation and sustainability. Running through The Bridge, Fastrack Route A connects the development to the shops and leisure facilities in Dartford town centre and Bluewater as well as to railway stations at Dartford, Greenhithe, Gravesend and Ebbsfleet International.
